The founding fathers were certainly smart men, they were aware that a democracy needed checks and balances and add the amendments to the Constitution to ensure this. Of course we know what has happened to the FIRST amendment, one that is first because it realizes that Freedon of the press is essential for a democracy.
Over the years there have been amazingly smart Americans – Lincoln, JFK, MLK, Obama and great music and art have come from America.
But where do we stand now, our educational system ranks 31st, think about that. One thing China understands is the importance of education for its society. And what about our medical system, accessibility ro good health care and prescription drug prices. We do have amazing natural wonders but now national park land is being sold to the highest bidder. It seems likely America is resembling a third world county with the number of homeless and the inability for an every day American to survive.
American music was once world cutting edge, we are the founders of jazz. Music used to speak to issues that affect America, with writers such as Guthry and Dylan. But now the music that young people listen to is largely hip-hop which has a good beat and is good to dance to but it is mainly mind numbing music with no message. While the art coming from America cannot stand up to European artist, we did have influential artists such as O Keeffe and Maxx, art these days is mainly landscapes and animals, stuff that sells on ebay and etsy. American still leads in technology and film making.
American have become very polarized, you either think how I do or you are the most vile enemy. Americans have increasingly resorted to drugs and alcohol to get through their days. Obescity is a national problem.
This is not to say that other countries are not struggling with the same issues but what was once a great world power, known as a compassionate, caring country, well that has disappeared like the buffalo roaming the west.
