Do not pursue what is illusory – property and position: all that is gained at the expense of your nerves decade after decade, and is confiscated in one fell night. Live with a steady superiority over life – don’t be afraid of misfortune, and do not yearn after happiness; it is, after all, all the same: the bitter doesn’t last forever, and the sweet never fills the cup to overflowing.
These words resonate with me and remind of the more familiar phrase, this too shall pass.
what does it mean to live with a steady superiority of life, it means be like a duck and let bad stuff wash off of you like water over a duck’s back. As the Beatles said, life goes on within you and without you. The challenges that you may face in life are part of the process, we are born one day and die one day. Once you fully appreciate this, it frees you, let’s you focus on things that help you find meaning in your life.
