Most people would agree that we are going through difficult times, and some speak of this being “end times”. Whatever your political or religious beliefs, all you need to do is watch the news on TV and you will be bombarded with reports that would lead you to wonder about the future of civilization. The consequences of global warming/environmental change are being experienced in real time. Floods, forest fires raging out of control, intense heat, global famine are the stark result of man’s abuse of the planet, impact our lives in ways we never dreamed of. Scientists are scratching their heads as they did not foresee these changes occurring so soon and in such extremes.
Beyond environmental issues I am concerned about what is happening on the human level. IQs are declining, younger folks seem way too preoccupied with their physical appearance, cities are being taken over by violent gangs, people no longer engage in polite dialogue but rather see everyone with a different belief as a stranger or worse as an enemy the health of Americans is declining, and we now face the emergence of viruses and disease that we thought were history.
So what is one to do. Wallowing in despair is not the answer. Building a safe room, populating Mars, and living in denial are all not solutions. It is time to think globally. The butterfly effect comes to mind, To quote AI

Understanding the Concept
The butterfly effect is a metaphor from chaos theory, suggesting that small changes can lead to significant impacts in complex systems. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of actions and their potential ripple effects, reminding us that even minor decisions can have far-reaching consequences in our lives and the world around us.
These sayings encapsulate the essence of the butterfly effect, inspiring reflection on how our actions, no matter how small, can create significant change.
Little things make a difference. Look out for your neighbor, recycle, cultivate a garden or plant trees, vote for political candidates who have the courage to talk about these issues, and take control over the things you can control such as your diet, exercise and mental health.
And lastly, having a pet helps. They lower your blood pressure, love you unconditionally and are a source of entertainment. And if having a pet does not work given your living situation, you can always volunteer at your local shelter.
