of all the music I have listened to in my life, Dylan had the most influence on me. When I was a teen, I used to cut school and go to the main library in Philly and take out albums and listen to them there, I gravitated to folk. I began exploring Dylan’s early stuff, I love Song to Woody.
Dylan’s music has had a strange impact on my life. When I was 20 I saw him play with The Band in Philly. I was close to the stage and it was a peak experience in my life. Years later, I met the man who was soon to be the father of my children. While we connected on several levels, I think our mutual love of Dylan was what really cemented the relationship. Years later I gave birth to our son, Colin, who interestingly was born on Dylan’s birthday, May 24th.
Dylan was the spokesperson for our generation, songs like The times they are a changin and Blowin in the Wind, spoke to what was happening in the 60’s. He continues to release more music but I prefer the early stuff. Check out the movie A Complete Unknown, to appreciate his time in NYC when he finally took off.
