This phrase is from the Bible and used by the Swedish director Bergman. Everybody does it in one way or another, at one time in your life. Psychologist may call it denial. You tell yourself that you will live forever, that your partner isn’t really abusing you pr that you only drink in moderation.

Who said the truth will set you free.
Today it is especially hard to face the truth, we are clearly going to hell in a handbasket. But reassure yourself that in the history of the human race, others have felt the same way, and we survived. As the Beatles said, life goes on within you and without you.
The trick is to remain positive. Keep hope alive
