FEELINGS

We all have them or we wouldn’t be human, but actually all animals have feelings. A dog’s heart will break if he loses his owner and at times dogs have been know to die shortly after the loss of their dear owner. We experience a range of feelings – love, hate, jealousy, anger, sadness, depression, anxiety – to name a few.

Feelings are good expect when they are not. Anger can lead to hate and jealousy and maybe even rage. How many murders are committed when feelings of love became twisted.

While feelings are good, the main thing is balance, even too much love can make a person feel smothered. And a parent who loves their child even more than there spouse may have an insecure attachment, be emmeshed.

How to handle and process your feelings. The first step is recognize them, denial will only go so far. And when you deny a feeling, it tends to grow and more all consuming. So once you realize you are experiencing an intense feeling, the next step is to try to identify the source, the reasons for it. Love is pretty clear but when it is smothering, you may want to examine your childhood – did you feel love or rejected. Are you on an endless quest for someone to say you are OK, for someone to care and believe in you.

Rage is a big one, ask yourself why am I feeling so angry. Someone may have offended you, your spouse may be working too many hours, your kids are getting into trouble all the time and they never even wash a dish. Next, is your anger out of proportion to the situation, afterall kids will be kids and your spouse is only trying to make your life more comfortable. I have read yelp reviews about restaurants and I have to laugh at the amount o0f almost range this person had felt about their steak being cooked too long.

If you are feeling rage against a spouse/partner, you may suspect them of cheating on you. I would venture to guess that if you suspect it, it is true. No need to hire a private detective, just flat out and ask the dude, hey I think something is going on and we need to talk.

The important thing about emotions is deciding which you want to act upon and which are useless feelings that not helping your life, your growth as a person. Keeping angry feelings about what happened in your childhood, will not help you. You need to recognize them and move on to acceptance and forgiveness.

I believe many people these days are a ticking time bomb, ready to explode if someone passes them on the highway or a neighbor’s dog poops on their lawn.

We all need to talk a chill pill.
