Times have changed and things that were once ok are now a sin. Remember in the 50s when everyone, I mean everyone smoked. Newscasters smoked whole reporting the news, presidents smoked as well as celebrities. James Dean often had a cig behind his ear, a cool dude. Then the fact that cigarettes cause cancer came to light, like duh, and there were high taxes on cigarettes and now in some town you cannot even smoke on public property.
Alcohol. Well it has gone through ups and downs and there was a time it was illegal. How did that work out, people managed to get their booze one way or another. My grandfather was a bootlegger for a time. Let’s get real people, we love to drink. Hell even Jesus turned water into wine. Sure the abuse of alcohol has caused serious problems including fatal car accidents. Where I live a mayor has repeatedly been charged with DUI and what does she face, a small fine or a weekend at a hotel.
Drugs have also changed in our opinion. A drug that was used for morning sickness in the 50s at times led to the birth of seriously damaged babies. Cocaine was once in drinks. And how about pain medication. Years ago oxycodone was given out like it was candy. Then the largest manufacturer of the drug faced a class action law suit, they were fined, had their name removed from several art galleries but still walked away with billions.
Times change, sometimes for the worst and sometimes for the better.
