An unfortunate and inevitable consequence of being alive is death. Although people try desperately to prolong their life – there are numerous supposed medical treatments that can prolong your life including extreme diets and supplements, very dubious. At best one can increase your longevity by engaging in sold practices such as being careful about your diet, exercising, having strong social support and intervening early when you are facing a life threatening disease. Indeed pancreatic cancer, a diagnosis which implied a rapid inevitable death, has seen a new medication which has had great results in prolonging life.
Facing death often leads on to examine their faith. There is a saying – there are no atheist in the trenches. And in a hospital or when in hospice, a spiritual advisor typically come to pay a visit.
How people cope when facing death. Some are in denial and some go kicking and screaming. most people eventually quietly accept the inevitable. Years ago there was a doctor called, the doctor of death, who began assisting people who faced death, commit suicide. This was controversial in the US but Europe embraced this and seven European countries have laws permitting assisted dying or euthanasia
What happens after death, that is a question debated since the dawn of man, I guess everyone has to answer this question on their own. My daughter died amny years ago but at times I believe her spirit comes back to me in the form of animals that surround me. Is that reality based, I don’t know, it comforts me.
