are men and women’s brains different

most people would answer this question with a resounded “yes”

as the book Men are From Mars Women are from Venus suggests

but let’s look at the research in this area

men are born with larger brains than women but brain size does not necessarily imply stronger cognitive abilities

women and men do navigate space differently – women tend to rely on visual landmarks when driving while men seem to have a better innate sense of space and men hate to ask for directions but that has nothing to do with brain functioning

men are somewhat superior at spatial tasks that involve being able to visualize and manipulate objects in space

women tend to use more brain areas when performing tasks while men are more discrete in the areas employed

note that I often say “tend” and that is because there are more differences within each gender than between each gender. That is to say, men and women are really not all that different in their brain functioning.
